Capuchin Krishik Seva KendraŽ
organized World Girl child Day at Belthangady
On 11th October 2013, Capuchin Krishik Seva KendraŽ organized World
Girl child Day at Belthangady. To mark the event at 10 am rally was
organized from Ayyappagudy, Santhekatte to Belthangady Bus stand and
thereafter all college students and people assembled in the Gurunarayana
Hall at 11.00 am.
The program commenced by the welcome speech of Ms. Mamatha and followed
by the presidential address by the Director Fr. Vinod Mascarenhas
Capuchin. He pointed out that there should be equality in all the
sectors for the women. It may be entry to the temples or religious
places, in performing the rituals and so on where the women are treated
as just as a slaves. At home women also should be considered as an equal
partner with husband and men should also share the responsibility of
women in all the household activities. The huge inequality can be seen
in the very base level when a girl is child born where she has to face
the problem in all the life stages and when it comes to the marriage,
child birth, education and other social systems which make her life
miserable and in many cases women/girls are exploited publicly but we do
not have the courage to protest against the atrocities. We raise our
children such a way that they will not have the courage to fight against
the injustices they experience and finally all these our women live with
men like slaves and as just for producing children and thus contribute
to the mail dominated society always.
Mr. Vasanth Bangera, MLA, Belthangady T.Q enhanced the grace of the
stage through his presence and inaugurated the function and opinioned
that world girl child day is celebrated to motivate the people to
respect the women and girls in the society. Girls are always the topper
in all the fields mainly in the field of education and they have a goal
in their life and achieve a better future in all the fields than the
boys. When it comes to the field of the marriage the dowry system,
divorce in particular casts hinders the life of the girls/women. There
is also an equal right for the women in their parent’s property to lead
a independent life if they have to. By wishing the success and by
motivating the girls to overcome from the fear and fight against the
violence he concluded his speech. He also drew the attention of the
audience saying that there is feeling among the general public that I
being the MLA of the Taluka has not done anything about sowjanaya’s rape
and murder case. But I again remind you all that it is I who when our
Government came to power spoke about sowjanaya’s rape and murder case
and now I assure you that I will do my best to pressurize Chief Minister
to transfer this case to CBI and bring justice to the victim’s family.
Ms. Srujana , member of child club shared her experience about the world
girls day and opinioned that there is a situation in the rural areas
where girls cannot walk freely even day time on the road and the
concerned department is failing to give protection for the women and
young girls. We are living in the country where women are worshiped as
goddesses but how many are safe enough to live fearless life in the
society or in our surroundings. Everyone should voice out to protect the
rights of girls and women in order to create a peaceful atmosphere in
the society.
Ms. Smitha, a student of St.Thomas college on behalf of all Taluka grils/women
red the memorandum and submitted to the government through the MLA Mr.
Vasanth Bangera who in reply promised to bring attention to the Chief
Minister of Karnataka to provide all the necessary protection to the
young girls and women.
Ms. Smitha Thomas the student of St. Thomas Collage, Belthangady shared
her experience with the audience. She said that any girl or women of any
gender, caste, creed and social status should be supported when it comes
to the issues of the violence against them. The saddest thing is that
now everywhere we find pictures and the posters of women on the walls
and theaters depicted them as pleasure objects which humiliate girls and
women. Such kind of ill-presentation of girls and women generates
disrespect to the women.
Ms. Anusuya, the resource person shared her views with the audience by
leading into active discussion. She brought to the attention of the
public that now the scanning centers are increasing day by day and
according to a news paper report per year more than 5,00,000 girl babes
are destroyed in mother’s womb. Both women and men are equal in all the
respects and this equality should be introduced from the home and school
itself. We should do away with those school literatures which
differentiate boys and girls where it is stated that with the
photographs that the certain jobs or works are done by men only and
certain jobs only for the women. This will have an adverse impact on the
children from their childhood itself. We have a wrong understanding that
the dress code of the women/girls lead men to the such criminal cases in
the society but now a days we also can see the cases where the little
girls become victims and suffer as same as the women.
Ms. Shubadas spoke to the audience that the first thing the girls should
do, start respecting themselves and build up their personality and
should be confident enough to face the hard life created through men or
from others. Then girls can bring some changes in the society and able
to minimize violence in the society. There are some myths in our minds
about the rules and regulations that women should follow in the society.
But there are no such regulations to men. To Some extent the serials and
the films are playing a major role to feed this type of myths among the
women and make women to live as an innocent wife or daughter where she
obeys her father or husband beyond a limitation and it makes her to
depend on them for each and every work. They have become just house
wives. As a result now days ladies do not have any exercise and activity
which make them fresh and healthy therefore the women are frequently
succumb to the diseases such as breast cancer, blood pressure, sugar etc
but men leisurely get up in the morning and go for morning walk,
exercise etc and keep themselves physically and mentally healthy. When
it comes to understanding the problems faced by the women, it is not
necessary that one should get married, we can understand the women’s
problems by just observing it and fight against the inequalities faced
by them.
Lastly students from the different collages and from the students of
Dayalbhagh Agricultural Training Centre performed cultural programs
based on the issues related to the women and girls at present era. The
program was concluded by the vote of thanks of Mrs. Merin at 2.30 pm.
