VIMUKTI Pothnal in promoting and building awareness of child rights. In
the key note address Fr. Sathish Fernandes Director, Vimukti appealed
for a greater involvement of the civil society towards the protection of
child rights and a concrete action orientation towards their goals.
Speaking on this occasion Mr. Mariyappa SDMC president said, "Children
irrespective of their background need protection and care. Every member
of society must be sensitive to the rights of children. Child victims of
any sort, those who are exploited or abused are to be entitled to
special care and should have the privilege and access to basic social
services. Our concerted efforts joining our hands with Vimukti, is to
provide helpful services to foster the health, self-respect and dignity
to the child".
Volunteering to take special responsibility the children representatives
of various government schools in and around Pothnal, got together and
formed child right club under the banner of Vimukti; further they
conducted social audit to check out as how the child rights were being
enforced in these schools. Children divided themselves into groups and
discussed about the child right violations in their given situations.
There were positive results in making the day very special. The school
children took active part in the rally and campaigned in village streets
carrying placards in their hands spreading the message of protection of
child rights. The children also held press meet to highlight their
reveled findings. We definitely hope and see the good results of their
hard work. The greatly applauded campaign too was extensively covered by
the regional newspapers.
