Free the ChildLaborers: Voice from Children parliament Members
“Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one” _Malcom Forbes

Everyone has the right to education. Education should free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education is compulsory; Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education they should divulge to their children. In this past technical world, poverty has increased. On the other hand, it seems that child labor will not end in near future in spite of 12% or 15% percent increase in literacy. Though literacy rate was increased, there is no end to child labour. On the other hand the school drop-out ratio is also on the increase. In Raichur district nearly 30,000 child laborers, children in the age of 8-14 who are working as daily wage laborers or children are pledged for the debt of parents (bonded laborers). Some work in the factories, fields, and at their houses and their crisis remain buried in their hearts. Such children do not get sympathy or tutelage from anyone and becoming the victims of social disregard, they lead their lives in misery. Children work at the cost of their health though they have long hours of work, slavery, lack of protection and continuous physical and mental torture. The children are working in open fields under the burning sun, pluckingcotton, chilly, carrying mud, grassing cattle’s, cuttings vegetation and doing household works within the framework of a kitchen, is concealed within our comforts and luxuries. Children are working in manufacturing process too. There is total lack of conducive- atmosphere regarding children’s right to education. Thousands of children remain devoid of education; this condition leads to child labor eventually.

After the critical survey Vimukti has taken initiative in this regard to promote universalization of primary education and freeing child laborers. This programme which was taken up with the co-operation of the children parliament members and organized the rally conducted this year in Udbal Village. In this all our club-children were present. Rally began with a small in-put session and carrying of placards as all marched through the main roads of Udbal. The Programme proper was held at Government higher primary school premises. 50 children were enrolled in the school of which 35 were regular of which 21 are now enrolled in the primary school in various standards as per their growth. The dignitaries on the dais greatly appreciated children parliament members for their development in literacy, vocational skills like tailoring and crafts, acting and dancing etc,
